The New York State Real Estate Exam is an exam that tests your knowledge of what you’ve learned during your New York 77-Hour Real Estate Pre-licensing Course. Your New York State Real Estate Exam must be schedule in advance.

  • Create an account on eAccessNY
  • Choose a location for your exam
  • Pay the exam fee

What is eAccessNY?

eAccessNY is the New York Department of State’s online platform for scheduling your State exam and applying for your license. You will also eventually use your eAccessNY account to renew your New York real estate license.

What is the cost of the NYS Real Estate Exam?

The cost of each State Exam attempt is $15 and you may take the State Exam as many times as you need to pass.

How do I study for the New York State real estate exam?

Preparing for your State Exam includes studying the course material and ensuring you have everything you need for the exam, such as a photo ID, a calculator, and a pencil.

The best way to prepare for your State Exam is to stay focused while you are completing the 77-hour pre-licensing course, ensuring you are understanding the material being taught throughout the course.

Complete Your New York State Real Estate Exam

On the day of your State Exam, you will need to go to the physical location of your exam. Be sure to be on time, as students will not be admitted to the exam after the specified start time.

You will be allowed 90 minutes to complete your New York State Real Estate License Exam. The allotted time begins at the conclusion of the instructions.

What do I need to bring with me to the State Exam?

  • A form of government-issued signature identification that must be photo-bearing. Your identification MUST BE CURRENT (not expired) and from the following list:
    • driver’s license
    • state issued identification (ex. non-driver ID)
    • IDNYC Card (NYC Identification Card)
    • military ID
    • United States Passport
    • Employment Authorization Card (issued by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services)
    • United States INS issued ID
    • Certificate of US citizenship
    • Foreign Passport
    • Brazilian, Mexican, Honduran, and Ecuadorian Consular ID
  • The page you were requested to print when you scheduled your exam on eAccessNY. This page is referred to as the “Summary of Your Submission” and includes all of your exam information, including your candidate number.

What are the Exam Site policies?

  • Calculators are permitted if they are battery or solar powered, silent, nonprinting and do not contain an alphabetic keyboard. PDA’s are not allowed.
  • Cellular phones, beepers and any other electronic devices MUST be turned off during the exam.
  • Dictionaries, books, other reference materials, large bags and briefcases are not allowed at the exam site. Do not bring these materials to the exam site as there is no place to store them.
  • Eating, drinking or smoking is not permitted at the exam site. If you bring food or beverages, you will be asked to dispose of them before entering the exam site.
  • Visitors, guests and children are not permitted at the exam site.
  • Firearms are not allowed at the exam site. Please contact our exam unit at (518) 473-2731 for questions pertaining to this policy.
  • Any person found using notes, books, or other aids; giving or receiving help; removing examination materials or notes from the exam site; causing a disturbance or engaging in practices contrary to the rules of proper examination conduct will be dismissed from the exam site. Any decisions regarding disciplinary measures will be made by the Exam Supervisor at the Department of State.

Can I retake my State Exam if I don’t pass?

Yes, you may retake the State Exam until you pass.

How To Get Your New York State Exam Results

To get your State Exam results, you will need to:

  • Login to your eAccessNY account (the account you used to book your State Exam).
  • Click ‘View Schedule Exam Details’.
  • Your schedule exam will appear with ‘Pass’ or ‘Fail’ marked next to it.

If you did not pass your State Exam, we recommend immediately booking your next exam date. Use the time you have before your next exam to study and prepare.

How long does it take to get NYS real estate exam results?

Your State Exam results will be ready within 5-7 days after taking the exam.

In New York, exam results are reported as either passed or failed.

What happens after I pass my New York State Real Estate Exam?

After you pass the New York State Real Estate Exam, you will need to do the following:

  • Choose a sponsoring broker.
  • Apply for your New York real estate license.
